Veteran Traveling Memorial Wall

Leavenworth was so blessed to have the AVTT Vietnam Memorial Wall at Ray Miller Park. Thank you to all the brave soldiers that fought for our freedom. Thank you to Leavenworth Convention & Visitors Bureau, Leavenworth Police Department, VFW Veterans of Foreign Wars Leavenworth, Byron H. Mehl American Legion Post #23 (Leavenworth, KS), and all the other organizations that helped bring this amazing experience to Leavenworth. Today I was honored to help take down the wall and watch it move out to the next city. We will never forget.

Meeting with a Veteran

While going door to door today I had the honor of talking to Mr. Pinson a Navy Veteran. It's important for me to take time to hear veterans concerns. Mr. Pinson is concerned about healthcare and the Kansas Economy.

Recent visit to Lansing Correctional Facility

I recently visited the Lansing State Correctional Facility.  Kansas Correctional Officers recently got a long awaited  2.5% raise in pay, bringing the starting pay to $13.95 per hour.  Support staff and non-uniform staff have not seen a cost of living increase since 2008. Benefits take another 9% out of their paychecks.  Based on these low wages there is staff shortages, which in turn creates safety and security issues for all Correctional staff.  Kansas Organization of State Employees (KOSE) has endorsed me because there is a better way to treat our state workers.

PITT CREW helps Louisiana Flood Victims

The PITT CREW made it to Louisiana and dropped off supplies at the United Way. We had enough supplies to provide ten families with help. Thank you to Willie and Mindy Williams for coordinating this, and to everyone from Leavenworth that donated!

Ducks Unlimited

Had a great time Leavenworth KS Ducks Unlimited event. The Leavenworth Chapter has donated 90% of the funding for the new pumping station at Perry Lake. This is going to nearly double the available marshland for duck habitat. At least 5 other organizations (such as Corps of Engineers) are also cooperating in this effort
